Is four minutes enough time to find a soul mate? You’ll soon have the chance to find out. Single in the City is a company catering to professional single people who are too busy to meet other eligible men or women. They are about to launch the first “speed dating” opportunity in Hamilton. Riding on previous successes in Toronto, Oakville and Burlington, Single in the City has no plans to alter their formula for finding Mr. or Mrs. Right: For about $50, you are treated to a welcome cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, live jazz music and the opportunity to “date” up to 25 unattached men or women – for four minutes each. Tables for two are set up, women remain seated, but the men rotate every four minutes – picture the dating version of musical chairs. After each exchange, both parties mark a score card with a “yes” or “no”. Within 48 hours, you’ll receive first names and email addresses of any mutual matches. Company co-owner Melissa Seifert says clients have an 80 per cent chance of getting at least one mutual match. “Speed dating is a way to have an interesting night out…it takes the pressure off people”. Or so she thinks. If her math is correct, the odds are better than the bar scene.
