There will be two separate speed dating events, one for the 23-35 year olds, and another for the individuals who fall under the 35-45 aged categories. The concept behind speed dating is simple and straightforward. Two people will be given the opportunity to date for 4 minutes until the bell sounds, at which time each individual will mark on a card whether they would like to see the other person again. Once the marking is complete, a new date is made and the evening continues. In the middle of the evening, there is the chance to meet further with some of the people you have already met or to approach someone they may have had their eye on but have not yet had the pleasure. After this break, participants again go on multiple dates. In the 48 hours following an event, participants receive an email with the names of the people they were matched with, a match being determined when both parties circle yes on their card.

Since its launch in May 2002, Single in the City has brought together 55 happy couples, a number that continues to increase with each sold out event. Single in the City is the first speed dating service to branch outside the downtown Toronto area. The event costs $55, which includes a welcome drink, hors d’oeures, 25 four-minute dates, and live jazz and sponsored prizes.
