I am wondering if men really prefer slim females or does a female who is a few extra pounds over have a chance of showing she has a brain, looks and a really nice person.

As long as are not excessively overweight i.e. obese you got nothing to worry about. A few extra pounds is not a turn-off for most men (and if they are that shallow you won't want to date them anyway). However, losing those extra pounds will make you more confident and therefore, more attractive.

That's a fair question Gene911, but I'm wondering what spurred it on in the first place? Do you have the impression that guys won't talk to a woman if she doesn't have a size 6 waist? Is this coming from a recent experience? All I want to do is put some context to your question.

Cheers,

It depends on a man.

IMHO, unless a woman is obese outright, it's more about shape than size.

Myself, A few extra pounds is fine, but obese is obese. Also, too skinny is spectacularly unattractive.

Listen, if someone looked at my body at a size 16, I would be categorized as obese. But I am very active and it just isn't showing up as a "size" for me. I know this is an exception and we live in a world where looks do matter...to all of us.
So generally, guys who say they want some one who lives a healthy life style mean that they want some one that "looks" like they live a healthy lifestyle.
That being said, we all have our physical preferences. Are you OK with how you look? dress? move? Does your body allow you to do all the things you enjoy? If yes, then find some one who discovers that in you. In the mean time, remember, Some will, some won't, move on.
And take care, mind how you go.

Generally, in terms of physical appeal, males are no different from females. Would you prefer a slim male or a male who is a few extra pounds over?

Some do and some don't mind. It can't be generalized.

On a strictly physical level I much prefer slim, but it's the entire package that counts. Sexiness comes from within.

The scientific consensus indicates that men of all races and nationalities prefer women with a waist to hip ratio of 0.7. This explains the attraction of men towards women with a slim waist and larger hips. I like this personally as well.

I like thin women but not boney. I'd rather a woman be 25 pounds overweight than 10 pounds underweight. The truth is a woman who has natural sexiness and takes care of her appearance can be much hotter even if she's 30 pounds overweight than some woman with a slim build.

The biggest reason why overweight women are not attractive is that they give up, wear ugly "fat woman" clothes (you know what I'm talking about, I'm sure), let their hair look like an animal died in it and they carry themselves like they're ashamed to be seen. All huge turn offs. About 4 years ago when I worked in an office a female co-worker pointed at a large woman who probably weighed 275 lbs or so and said to be (really disgusted) "she walks around like she's the sh*t" and I told her "She should, she's the sexiest woman in the office." I meant it too, and I bet she had no problem getting men, and not just men with fat fetishes. Weight does not diminish sex appeal in a woman unless she allows it to.
